Every 3 months we host a people we support review event.

The Review provides an opportunity for the people who use our service to talk about what works and doesn’t work at Newkey. We have noticed that when the people we support are in a group talking about our service it can spark more comments and views than when reviewing on a 1:1 basis.

As well as the event being an opportunity to talk about what we do and don’t do well we also plan activities to find out what more we can get out of our service. This has meant we have been able grow our service to suit the people we support’s interests as a group – We now provide opportunities for radio productions, nights out in town, holidays and sports clubs as a result of the people we support working together to organise things. This has brought the organisation closer and improved peoples wellbeing.

As part of the event we run a fun training exercise on a topic that relates to what the people we support are going through in their lives. This has meant the people we support have talked about their own experiences in life and has helped them to support and advise one another. Topics for this training so far have included – internet safety, understanding the role of on call, mate crime and relationships, safety at home and in the community and rota management.

After all of these activities the group decides on a film to watch and everyone has a social. These events have meant the people we support have got to know each other and have made a real sense of community.
